Dance Instructor Kristin WengerHave you been thinking of taking dance classes?  Do you know someone who would like to learn to dance?  Then consider taking a dance class through our partner and Swing Swap host, the County of Albemarle Parks & Rec. Dept., with Instructor Kristin Wenger!  Kristin is a long-time County and local instructor who has taken hundreds of nervous beginners through their first dance classes.  With a Masters degree in education, Kristin is truly a teacher and is known for her warm personality and her fun and friendly classes where students receive quality instruction on the foundations of dance, enabling them to become solid social dancers.

Beginner classes start Tuesday, September 13th at the Murray High School gym.  Class/registration information available here.

C'ville Dancers Fare Well at Swing Fling

Charlottesville area dancers (past and present!) fared well in competition at Swing Fling in early August.  Now produced by Dave Moldover and Dance Jam Productions and held at a new hotel in NoVa, attendees were treated to the usual DJP high standards and flawless execution ~ top notch professional instructors/performers, a wide variety of workshops, SwingFlingTV in every guest room, great social dancing and perhaps most importantly, contests that ran on schedule!

In the words of CSDS Secretary (and now, dance addict), Diane McDougall:

There's just something about great dance music - how its first few notes set your body to moving and your smile to widening. You can't seem to stop yourself. And when you combine great music with a never-ending display of great dancers to watch, well, you just can't beat it. So you want to join it.

That's how I felt at Swing Fling a few weeks ago. Even late Friday night - when my feet were begging that I head up to bed, and my introvert-heart was fading from the idea of asking another stranger to dance - all it took was one more great dance, and then the momentum picked back up, I told my feet to shut up, and I kept dancing. And smiling.

If you haven't already heard, let me tell you: Watching the Cville dancers compete was a highlight. At some points, in some of the competitions, we seemed to take over the dance floor! What fun to cheer on our own, and then watch them win.

If you've never experienced the rush of a big dance event, mark your calendars for the next one, coming to DC in November.  It doesn't matter what level of dancer you are - watching better dancers is the best motivation out there. And dancing with better dancers is a thrill.

Highlights from the August Dance

Thanks to everyone who came to our August dance and special thanks to Kristin Wenger for being our DJ and Lesson Instructor.  If you enjoyed her lessons, you can sign up for her group classes through Albemarle County Parks & Rec; classes start Tuesday, September 13th at the Murray High School gym.

Next month we return to Unity Church for our September 17th dance.  No stranger to being a Lesson Instructor, the lovely Alyssa Lundgren makes her CSDS DJing debut so come on out and join us at Unity!!

And, our October 15th Halloween dance is not far off ... it's never to early too start thinking about your costume!!
