Congratulations to the
(all returning!) 2011~2012 CSDS Board of Directors, elected at the March
dance: pictured above (left to right), Diane McDougall, Larry
Saunders, Terry Pratt, Mark DeBow and, not pictured, Rebecca Hettig,
Patrick Keith-Hynes and Alise Nielsen.
The seven Directors, along with a trusty stable of
Helpers, look forward to providing the Charlottesville area dance
community with another year of great dance opportunities - monthly
dances, weekly (FREE!) Swing Swap and workshop weekends, for
starts - and welcome YOUR suggestions and input! CSDS is an
all-volunteer run and member-driven organization and depends on your
involvement to keep it going year after year. Thank you to the
Directors, Helpers and all those who give of their time and energy to
make CSDS so successful!

Hustle Flash Mob, Anyone?!
Remember the WCS Flash Mob routine performed
at the CSDS Halloween Dance?! Well, fresh on the heels of that
comes the official Hustle Flash Mob
routine choreographed by DC area instructors, Erica Smith and
Joyce Szili.
While we won't be performing the routine in true flash mob style (taking
over a public space), we will
perform and film (to be posted on YouTube and Facebook) the routine
at our May 21st dance and we need YOU to participate!! So, here's
what you need to do:
1)
Get a partner!
2) Watch the
YouTube video and
learn the routine. Step Sheets are available here.
3) Come to Swing Swap where
the song, Just Dance by Lady Gaga, will be played each week sometime
between 7:45 - 8 pm. We'll gather at the far end of the gym to
dance the routine. We won't be teaching the routine during Swing
Swap but if anyone needs help with fine tuning, there should be a
few folks available for assistance.

Workshop Weekend Review
of CSDS Robin Smith West Coast Swing Weekend
Once there was a "ballroom man" who went to a
"glow in dark" west coast party. halfway though the 3 hour
dance something began to happen inside of him. he stopped counting,
patterns went away, and a moment of clarity occurred. he began to dance
in a way in which he had never danced before. the music began to
internalize inside of him and he became one with the lady he shared a
connection with. all the insecurities dissipated like the dew off of a
blade of grass in the morning light. the warmth filled him and his eyes
welled up and overflowed. the inner demons fell silent, as the voice of
truth spoke..."you can". my name is Jason...and i am a now west
coast junkie. thankz for coming to c'ville, va. take care, j
CSDS' February Workshop Weekend with Raleigh pro, Robin
Smith, was such a success it bears mentioning again! If you'd like
to have Robin return in the future, drop
us a line. In the meantime, mark your calendars for June
17th-19th when Asheville pros Jason & Amy Barnes return for our
second workshop weekend of the year.

Highlights from the March Dance
Thanks to everyone
who came to our March dance and for our annual election of the
coming year's Board of Directors. Jeff Freeman and Mary Rose
Serafini did a fabulous job as usual in being our DeeJays and Lesson
Instructors. You can look forward to their return at our July dance
at the MAC!
Our April dance features
the return of the lovely Kristin Wenger who will be our DeeJay and Lesson
Instructor. Kristin will teach West Coast Swing for the pre-dance
lessons ~ Beginner class at 6:30 pm and Intermediate class at 7:15
pm. If you've never taken a (WCS) class with Kristin, this is a
great opportunity to preview what her group classes,
through our partner Albemarle County Parks & Rec, are
like. Over the years, Kristin has been a great contributor to the
CSDS membership and Charlottesville dance community by shepherding
hundreds of people through her classes known for quality instruction
with an emphasis on learning proper technique, building upon a solid
foundation and having lots of FUN! Sign up for
