Happy New Year!
The CSDS Board of Directors & Helpers would like to wish
everyone a Happy New Year! What are your New Year's
resolutions? We hope one of them is to continue to dance and be a
part of the Charlottesville area dance community. We are blessed to
have so many dance opportunities, studios/instructors who support
each other and friendly members of the dance community. Feel
like giving back? There are many ways you can do so .... you can
offer to help set up/clean up at any of the local dances (the organizers
will really appreciate it!), help spread the love by recruiting new
people to attend classes/dances (some, like CSDS, offer
reduced admission for 1st timers) OR become a CSDS Board of Director (see
article below). You could even do something as simple as give
someone a CSDS membership as a GIFT!!
The CSDS Board is very excited about the New Year .... we
have a relatively new venue that is working out well - the Unity
Church - and we're looking forward to our next Workshop Weekend
with dance pro Robin
Smith of Raleigh, NC. Robin will be here February
18th ~ 20th to give workshops/privates and DJ our dance! He hopes
to bring some of the Raleigh area dancers with him, some of whom
you've already met and danced with at DC area events.
They are a super friendly bunch and wonderful dancers/students of Robin's
who always place well in competition. Our weekend format will
consist of group Workshops on Saturday afternoon followed by a catered
dinner and then our dance. Robin will give privates throughout
the weekend. Workshop Information & Registration Flyer will be
sent out as soon as details have been finalized.

Looking Ahead ... 2011-2012 Board of Directors
Yes, it's almost that time of year again ~ time to elect
Board of Directors for CSDS! Elections will take place at our March
dance and it's never too early to think about who YOU would like to see
be next year's Board of Directors! Being a BOD is NOT a commitment
to being present at every dance and/or Swing Swap; rather, it is sharing
the responsibility of organizing (which includes getting volunteers and
delegating!) these functions.
CSDS is an all-volunteer run club governed by 5-7 Board of
Directors and a handful of Helpers. Would you like to have a voice
in CSDS? Is event organizing one of your strengths? Or would
you simply like to be a part of a group of people making a difference in
a lot of others' lives?! Then CSDS is for you :-) To nominate
someone (including yourself!), contact Lisa
Morales or CSDS.

County Parks & Rec Dance Classes
Starting in January
Is
one of your New Year's Resolutions to take a dance class? Do you
know someone who would like to learn to dance? Then consider taking
a dance class through our partner/Swing Swap host, the County of
Albemarle Parks & Rec. Dept., with Instructor Kristin Wenger!
Kristin is a long-time County/local instructor who has shepherded hundreds
of nervous beginners through their first dance classes.
A teacher by education, she is known for her warm personality and
her fun and friendly classes where students receive quality instruction
on the foundations of dance, enabling them to become solid social dancers.
Classes
start on Tuesday, January 11th and are held at the Murray High School
Gym. Class and registration information are available here.

Highlights from the Holiday Dance
Thanks
to everyone who came to our Holiday Dance and to Kristin Wenger
for being our DJ and Lesson Instructor, what a great way to end
2010! Thank you too, to those who brought a dish to share
for our potluck.
Our next dance is Saturday, January 15th at Unity Church
with DJ Aidan Keith-Hynes and Lesson Instructors Al & Alyssa Lundgren
of The Dance Oasis teaching
the SALSA pre-dance lessons (inc. in admission) - 6:30 pm Beginner lesson
and 7:15 pm Intermediate lesson. Our dance is 8-11 pm.
See you at the
January dance!
