 CSDS is happy to welcome US Open Champions and
Maryland-based pros, Christopher & Lisa Schaupp, on Saturday June
19th for an afternoon of workshops (1 Hustle, 2 West Coast
Swing) preceding our monthly dance at the MAC.
Chris & Lisa started their dance careers in
California where they focused on West Coast Swing, Lindy and
Hustle. Starting their individual professional competitive
dance careers in the early 90's, they met through dancing and joined
forces in 1995. They competed and taught workshops from
New York City to Hawaii, as well as directed the Los Angeles based
South Bay Swing Dance Club where they attracted over a thousand new
students each year. Many of their original students and dance
team members have gone on to become top competitive dance champions
themselves.
While living in California, some of the top titles Chris
and/or Lisa achieved include: 1st Place US Open Swing Dance
Champions, 1st Place California Champions Division 1 Hustle, 1st Place
Worlds Jack & Jill Championships, 1st Place California State
Swing Champions, 1st Place Strictly Pro Division, US Open Award of
Excellence, and nominated and inducted into the California Swing Dance
Hall of Fame.
In 2002, Chris and Lisa moved to the Washington DC area with
their twin girls; they took some time off from dancing and also had a
baby boy in 2005. In 2006, they began to do some competing and
teaching again, as well as focus on ProAm Hustle and Swing
students. Since moving to the East Coast, some of the top titles
they have achieved include: 1st Place VSO 2008 Strictly Pro Hustle,
1st & 2nd Place MAD Jam 2009 Open Hustle Jack & Jill, 1st Place
MAD Jam 2009 All Star Swing, 2nd Place MAD Jam 2009 Open Strictly Swing,
1st Place Disco America 2009 Professional 3 Dance (Hustle, Salsa, Swing),
1st Place MAD Jam ProAm Spotlight and 2nd Place Disco America 2009 Pro
Invitational Hustle Jack & Jill.

We are very
fortunate to have Chris and Lisa living in the DC area. If you've ever
been to a DC area weekend dance event, chances are you've seen Chris and
Lisa in action ~ competing (themselves and with their ProAm students),
judging, giving workshops AND social dancing with everyone! Chris
and Lisa are two of the friendliest, approachable dance professional
you'll ever meet.

 Just for Fun .... a Dance Poll!!
Newsletter Contributor, Diane, and Editor, Adela, had
lots of free time one day (right, like either of them ever have free
time!) and cooked up a fun Dance Poll!
Here's the
deal: print out the poll, write in your
answers (along with your name) and turn it in either at a Swing Swap or
the CSDS dance on June 19th. During the break at the June dance,
we'll have a drawing and two lucky people will win FREE ADMISSION to a
future CSDS Dance. Answers (but no names) will be posted on the
CSDS website after the dance!

A Dancer Is Born ...
Jason and Amy Barnes of Asheville, NC announce the
birth of their first child! April Crowninshield Barnes arrived (6
weeks early!) at 2:14 pm on May 19th, 2010, at 18.5 inches long and 6
pounds, 11 ounces. Congratulations!!
