Fellowship Hall) at 100 Perry Drive. Our DJ is Michael
Smith. Pre-dance lessons in salsa with Terry Dean are at 6:30 pm
(beginner) and 7:15 pm (intermediate) and are included in the price of
admission. The dance is from 8 - 11 pm with a special performance
by Terry and his partner, Cindy Reynolds. See you then!

Happy New Year Dancers!!
 CSDS
rings in the New Year by going green! Just as we promised, CSDS
goes green with this inaugural issue of the January 2008
Newsletter. Just think how many trees we're saving by being more
environmentally conscious and going digital with our monthly
newsletter! Rest assured, photos of CSDS functions are still
available in the Photo Gallery of the CSDS website.
We hope you enjoy our new format and welcome any feedback, suggestions,
article ideas/submissions, reports on competition results, etc.

Dancing in 2007
A Look Back ...
2007 was an exciting year of dance for CSDS and the Charlottesville dance community. Reality TV shows such as So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With The Stars
helped generate more interest than ever which boosted attendance
at dances and in enrollment in beginner classes. We extend a
warm welcome to those new to CSDS and the local dance community and
encourage you to attend as many dance functions as possible.
Charlottesville is blessed to have a welcoming and friendly dance
commmunity with dance promoters, instructors and studios who work
well together in the spirit of providing us with the best possible
dance instruction and opportunities available.
In June, CSDS was proud to bring national
instructor and competitor Jennifer Lyons to Charlottesville for an
afternoon of workshops and to be our special guest at
our dance (see photos below). Jennifer taught 4 fun-filled
workshops to a full house and we're happy to announce Jennifer will
return on February 16th .... stay tuned for more details!
In November, CSDS showed everyone just how
much we appreciate your support by hosting a catered dinner, free for
members, before the dance. This well attended event
generated such positive feedback so cross your fingers we'll plan
another one sometime in 2008!
CSDS would like to thank you, our members, for
your continued support of our dance club. With your membership
dues (only $15/year, that's the equivalent of 4 coffees at Starbucks!)
and the tireless efforts of our Board of Directors & Helpers and
trust stable of volunteers, we are able to continue to provide you with
monthly dances, a FREE weekly dance practice session (Swing
Swap), workshops, this Newsletter and our (what should be an
award-winning) website, your complete resource for dancing in and around Charlottesville.

Need to Practice?! Come to Swing Swap!!
.. it's FREE ... every Thursday ... no partner necessary ...
CSDS hosts a FREE weekly dance practice called Swing Swap*!!
If you are like most people, you need to practice what you learn in
dance class in order to retain it. Come on out and practice your
new moves while they are fresh in your mind so they can become a
permanent part of your dance repertoire! Swing Swap
is held on Thursdays* from 7:30 - 9 pm at the Murray High School Gym,
located at 1200 Forest Street (off the north side of Preston
Avenue, between Rose Hill Drive and Harris Street). DJ Lisa
Morales plays a variety of music ~ East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing,
Hustle, Nightclub 2-Step, Country 2-Step, Cha Cha, Waltz, etc. Swing Swap
is a relaxed and friendly atmosphere for practice. All
are welcome, with or without partners, any level of experience!
